Individual & Workplace Empowerment Through Trauma Sensitivity

"Freedom is a state of being which comes from within yourself.
It is intrinsic to who you truly are." Linda Conyard

Whether you are a woman who is a stay at home mother or a multi-million dollar female entrepreneur, how you lead in your family or business depends on how deeply connected you are to the truth of who you really are.

What I have come to realise and see often in my work is that there are three major disconnects that interfere with the potential each and every woman has. These are:

     1.  Disconnection from self;
     2. Disconnection from others; and
     3. Disconnection from our environment.

If  we were deeply connected to ourselves, we wouldn't treat ourselves the way we do, we wouldn't treat each other how we do, and we certainly wouldn't treat our environment the way we do.

The remedy is both simple and challenging at the same time. We need to simply make a deeper connection with our true self which creates the challenge of taking a good hard look at what aspect of ourself is running our life and committing to changing what doesn't serve us. The hardest thing you will ever do is to take an honest look into yourself. The best gift you can ever give yourself is to take an honest look into yourself!

Including Your Clients!" Linda Conyard

Acknowledgement of Country

by Linda Conyard

I would like to acknowledge and pay my respects to the traditional custodians, the Elders past, present and emerging, of the land on which I am able to work and live.

It is the Jinibara people of the Garumngar clan, whose land, wind and water I have access to.

I acknowledge and feel deep sadness for the loss of land, people, children, culture and treasures that the Aboriginal People have endured at the hands of my ancestors.

I venture forward with respect, understanding, compassion and a willingness to own and acknowledge my white history and privilege.

My promise is to do what I can to find a healing path in the present and create a future together based on the truth.

Testimonial:  "Approximately 3 years ago, whilst I was navigating one of the most confronting periods of my life, I was thankfully offered the name/number of a respected therapist who I was told may be able to offer me some support. The therapist I am referring to is Linda Conyard, and this remarkable woman quite literally changed my life.

At the time I knew little more about Linda other than the fact that she was a Trauma Therapist, and given the work I had done previously throughout my life, in an attempt to try an unravel my (what I now understand) complex trauma, I was a little dubious initially wondering how this woman may be able to help me where others had previously fallen short.
Well, where do I start?

Linda possesses all of the qualities you would expect in a great therapist. She is, of course, extremely patient, supremely supportive, profoundly empathetic, incredibly insightful….the list is endless. However, as important as these qualities are, Linda’s approach and commitment to healing (both to herself and others) extended way beyond this, way beyond what I initially understood or even believed was possible. She is unlike anyone I have come across in all of the years
of my commitment to therapy….both as a client and as a therapist myself.

Linda is a healer. In using this term (not a term I use lightly), I am referring to Linda’s remarkable ability to not only support her clients through the healing journey of the body, mind and emotion, but arguably more importantly, the healing of the heart and the spirit. She is completely holistic in her belief, unwaveringly spiritual in her view and beautifully practical and down to earth in her approach.

A therapist of the highest order, a mentor beyond comparison, a hilariously funny and frank individual and a deeply kind and loving soul. I am also extremely grateful to be able to say she is now someone I call my trusted friend. A more profound and inspiring woman I have never met."  Jayne Cassidy

Frequently Asked Questions

What is trauma recovery therapy?
Not everyone recognizes that the challenges they are struggling with are caused by unresolved trauma. People may come in because they have anxiety, and as we work together, we find there is trauma associated with anxiety being triggered. I never know what will become visible as we work together, and I trust that regardless of how bad you feel about yourself, you have the inner wisdom to recover and reconnect to who you truly are. We find the healing path together through my facilitation of bringing your awareness to what you are holding in your body. There is no one thing for everybody. I believe everyone unfurls in their own way if we listen to what the body tells us.
Why not just talk to a  friend?
Having a friend to talk to is absolutely wonderful. If you need more than a chat, a hug, or a cup of tea, then finding a therapist to work with is of value. See my thoughts on how to choose a therapist.
How do I choose a therapist?
I wish I had known I could interview a potential therapist while searching for one. It never entered my mind until I became a therapist and welcomed people to ask any needed questions. I believe that as a therapist, I don't earn the right to sit opposite someone looking for healing if I haven't done that work myself. I also believe that you, as a potential client, have the right to know the level of commitment a potential therapist has to their own work. If they get a bit funny when you start asking questions about this then that's your answer. I have created a sheet that people can use when they are looking for a therapist to work with. You can access that here: Click here.
What qualifications should I look for?
I would expect to see a degree of some level. If it is a diploma or an advanced diploma, I would like to know that there has been continuous further study undertaken. It is important that the therapist continues their learning and stays in touch with growth in the field.
How long are the sessions?
My sessions are up to 90 minutes. I enjoy spaciousness and limit my daily client work to no more than 6 people a day. I find this level of work is where I can have good energy and alertness for my clients.
What's the benefit of your programs?
The programs are designed to use the group to increase learning, understanding, and connection. Trauma happens in disconnection, and healing happens in connection. Most people who have unresolved trauma feel alone in their suffering. Being in a group helps us to realize that we do not have to struggle in isolation. We also see that a lot of what happens for us also happens for others. This is not to allow you to compare levels of trauma and minimize your own experience, it is so you can realize you are not alone and use the group's support as part of your own healing process.
What if I don't like groups?
This is not as uncommon as you may think. Many people do not like groups. Some through experiences of being in groups and potentially being triggered. Some are from experiences from when they were at school where they have been singled out and potentially embarrassed. There are many reasons why people don't like groups. When you join one of my groups, you are always welcome to let me know what's not working for you, and together to find a solution.
How frequently should I see my therapist?
If you are working with me one to one on trauma recovery then it is good to come weekly. What happens if you don't is, you easily fall back into habitual patterns. If the distance between sessions allows this to happen we don't make much progress and we would need to discuss how to proceed.
What options do I have as far as attending a therapy session?
For face-to-face sessions, I have a workspace in Samford Village on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are other options if people prefer to use Zoom.
