Invite Your Ancestors In

Claim Your Place of Belonging Within Your Lineage

As a society we have lost touch with our ancestors and our ancestral lineage. What stories do you remember hearing about your great, great, grandfather or grandmother? We don't seem to have the storytelling coming through our family lines. Most people can only recall some details back to their great grandmother or great grandfather. Usually these are very early childhood memories or stories told about them.

A lot of the older cultures have their ancestors deeply in their life always, in ways that may seem foreign to us.

Systemic Constellation Work

(Also known as Family Constellations)

"The essential dilemma of my life is between my deep desire to belong and my suspicion of belonging."
Jhumpa Lahiri

You may be meeting this work for the first time so I have put a lot of information here to explain something that is very experiential and non linear.

Systemic Constellation Work was created by Bert Hellinger and gives us the opportunity to see what is out of order in our family system, what is out of our awareness and to see our repeating generational patterns. Systemic Constellation Work has emerged from several different therapies, such as, psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, systems theory and phenomenology.

We don’t look to place blame on anyone in the lineage or situation because each member of the system has carried the burden of the system out of love, loyalty and honour. The whole idea of constellating an issue is to find the healing path and return to wholeness.

As the facilitator of the process I ask myself, what does this issue (whatever the client brings seeking resolution for) do for this system? The key is to include everything that shows up and to be free from judgement.

Systemic constellations are an effective tool in the resolution of interpersonal problems in both families, organisations or any system. They have been used in many settings such as education, health care, social services and prisons. They may also reveal a new perspective on issues related to inheritance, war, crimes and race. Systemic constellations are perfect for those that desire the experience of living and operating from the place of full potential and belonging.

The application of this work is only limited by one's imagination and curiosity.

I believe more than ever this work is critical for us to be able to make significant change to the issues we face on a micro level - our own experience and on the macro level - our collective experience. See more on how I'm working with the collective field here. We absolutely need to stop trying to resolve our issues using the same thinking that created them (thank you Albert Einstein for these wise words). Using the same thinking that created our issues is the reason we get to repeat patterns that have their roots in unresolved collective trauma.

"When I lived in South Africa, someone told me what the longest road in Africa is.
It's not the road from Cairo to Capetown, it's the way from your head to your heart,
and from there to the here and now." Bert Hellinger

Family Constellation vs Organisational Constellation

Family Constellations (FC) are where individuals seek out an insight into a symptom within the family of origin. It may be something like illnesses that repeat generationally or it may be a symptom such as mental illness that hasn't had a link made back through the generations. We often get caught in our small view of our own immediate family which may consist of our children, us and then our parents and maybe our grandparents. If we think about it we are the result of thousands that have gone before us, yet we limit our view to the generations just mentioned. What we are experiencing may go far beyond our grandparents and this is where FC come into their own. This process can uncover what a system is carrying and explore what the next step toward healing might be.

"Family dysfunction rolls down from generation to generation, like a fire in the woods, taking down everything in its path until one person in one generation has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to their ancestors and spares the children that follow." Terry Real

Organisational Constellations (OC) are when we view the organisation as a system and look at the symptom/s of this system. This is often where the linear thinkers exist and the concept of constellations which is not linear can at first appear to be woo woo and not be given the respectful place it deserves. If you think about it, what are organisations made up of? People, right! Each and every person in that organisation comes from their own family system and merge with the organisation which creates another system. There will be reasons why each individual has been drawn to the organisation and the role they play within it. The gold in OC is that you can gain incredible insights into what is not seen. So instead of symptom managing we get to explore symptom reason and from there, seek to resolve what is needed to be resolved. OC The more open to this process the organisation is the more the organisation will be able to receive. Just as an aside, how many times have you heard people speaking about their work family? Or, how many times has there been someone in your workplace that brings the same reactions as your own family members?

The main difference between Family Constellations and Organisational Constellations is that we refer individual work to a different setting when working with organisations. We are respectful that people are not over-exposed emotionally or by sharing information that may cause shame post the work. So as a facilitator, I take great care to keep the constellation at a level that supports all attending. If there is something in an individuals system that may need more work, then it is suggested that they make a time to explore that privately.

Constellations help us to:

  • Bring into consciousness what is subconscious and make visible what is not seen;
  • Avoid repeating old patterns and shift away from the old story;
  • Make confusing situations clear;
  • Find solutions to complex situations;
  • Develop new perspectives;
  • Clarify goals;
  • Connect with where we belong;
  • Access the bigger picture;
  • Understand that the issues are symptoms asking to be seen and acknowledged;
  • To feel the movement/s of the Soul;
  • Lean into the field (the greater Soul);
  • See the significance of order and being in the right order;
  • Accept what was and free ourselves from judgement opening up to compassion and understanding;
  • Be at peace with your parents;
  • Access the invisible field of information.

Constellations are definitely the tool we all need in our toolbox!

Z What to expect from a Constellation

"There is no honour is suffering on behalf of others, it simple begets more suffering." Shavasti

Everyone's experience will be different. Here are my tips that have come from my own experience and from the feedback I've received from many participants over the years.

For Organisational Constellations, have a read through this information and where it refers to family issues just bring to mind what it is that the organisation is seeking. Not all of it will be relevant but such things as the lineage of the organisation and the founder of the organisation are important. There is an opportunity for us to have a free consultation that will help us define what can be done for the system of the organisation.

Before the constellation

You may experience disturbances in your field prior to the constellation. For example if you don't usually have disturbed sleep, you may find that you begin to experience this. Or you may find that the issue that pulled you toward constellation work intensifies prior to attending. The main thing to remember here is to be gentle with yourself and your environment and simply bear witness to what is unfolding.

I have found that there is a dance in the energy surrounding a constellation which I have always found very beautiful and nourishing. It has helped me feel my ancestors around, supporting me.

Do your best to be well rested prior to the constellation. It is helpful to wear comfortable clothing and to be well hydrated.

Prepare yourself in mind, body and spirit. This is done through awareness of what's happening in your mind. Be the observer of your thoughts. It may be helpful to write down what's happening in your mind leading up to the constellation. To support your body make an extra effort to nourish it well prior to the constellation work. I know that when I facilitate I don't feel like food so being well nourished prior is supportive for me. To prepare spiritually means to bring more awareness to your spiritual connection. This doesn't mean the dogma of religion unless that is something that support you. It can mean that you spend a bit more time connecting to nature or your animals. Whatever for you deepens connection to why you are here on the planet.

You can also google family constellations or organisational constellations to get an idea of the process of a constellation. Every facilitator is different so use this as a softening to the process so you are not walking in without any idea. You are also welcome to come without any idea.

It is also helpful to create your intention for the constellation:

 - If you are part of Healing Humanity Through Truth® Research Project then you won't be doing your personal constellation work. We will be looking at the transgenerational collective cultural trauma that remains unresolved and continues to play out in our society to this day. So an intention for this work may be something like - 'May I be of service to what is needed to be unearthed today for the greater good of humanity.'
 - If you are part of an Organisational Constellation then you will not be doing your own personal constellation, you will be representing whatever is needed to explore the symptom agreed on prior to the work beginning. An intention for an organisational constellation may be something like - 'May I allow myself to be open to what the system wants to show me.'

 - If you are planning on attending a constellation where you may have the opportunity to do your own family system work then an intention may be something like - 'I want to see what this (issue) does for my family system'.

Tips for preparing for your own Constellation:

 - Reflect on what you are seeking from the work and have an idea of what you want to see so it is a clear, simple sentence as mentioned above. The clearer you are the more clarity will show up in the work. It is worth spending some time contemplating this prior to attending;

 - It is useful (don’t worry if you don’t) to know the basic facts about your family. Consider who had special fates, for example, dying young, chronic illnesses, who is excluded from the family, major traumas and think about who belongs to your family system such as:
     * Your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and generations beyond these;
     * Your brothers and sisters;
     * Aunts and Uncles;
     * Your children;
     * Children who died young, including stillbirths, miscarriages and abortions;
     * Significant others such as former partners of parents or grandparents, as well as all those whose misfortune or death
        brought the family an advantage or gain;
     * Victims of violence and murder in the family or by any members of the family.

You do not need to know or think of all this information. This is offered to you for contemplation. Take some time before the workshop to sit quietly and allow whatever needs to come drop in and come along with an open heart and mind.

" The black sheep of the family brings new life to the family tree." Jonathan Hoban

During the constellation

As the constellation begins you may start to feel body sensations that just appear out of nowhere. It may be something like a swirling in the belly or discomfort in the head. This is normal and it is how the constellation talks to us. You are already feeling the pull into the work.

You may or may not feel drawn into a constellation. The facilitator may invite you to represent something that is needed in the constellation. You do have a choice if you participate or not. Most people know that it is them who needs to represent whatever element is needed. The thing to remember here is that there is a greater force moving within us that has roots in thousands of ancestors who have gone before us.

This story comes to mind of a lady who came to a constellation not really knowing what to expect and she had a pen and notebook. She was expecting the typical training scenario where she would listen and take notes. When we were in circle and everyone was adding their voice to the group, she said something like "I think I'm in the wrong place". I smiled on the inside because I knew she was exactly in the right place, she just didn't know it yet. I gave her the opportunity to leave and I would fully refund her money. She decided to stay and had a beautiful constellation around her mother. This is an example of how this field works within us. Sometimes we are very conscious of it and other times we aren't.

It usually doesn't take people long to allow themselves to be fully present to the potential of this work, even if they don't understand it. I still am in awe of this work after all these years and to explain it in words just doesn't do the experience justice.

When you have the privilege of being a representative within the constellation, simply embrace it and allow the sensations, thoughts, words, and actions from the field to flow through you. The facilitator checks in with each representative and supports the field to continue in a healing movement.

You may do or say things that you wouldn't normally. Other representatives may also have the same experience. What's important to remember here is that everyone in in representation and it is not personal.

"When you deny and ignore your history, you do it at the expense of healing yourself and your system, your destiny and your Inner Peace.” Linda Conyard .

After the constellation

Once you have finished in your representation you then need to let go of what you were representing. Scan your body recognising you are you. Take a walk outside on the grass and feel the earth beneath your bare feet again feeling totally yourself. If you are having trouble releasing your representation then please see the facilitator.

Keep well hydrated and eat if you are hungry.

If you did a personal Constellation it is preferred that you continue to recall the last ending picture over the next couple of months. The information has gone into your soul so don't worry if you don't recall it all. Only remember the final picture.

It is advised not to analyse what unfolded in the constellation, remembering this is Soul work and often doesn't make sense to our analytical brain.

You may feel fatigued or emotional after a constellation just as you may feel a huge sense of relief and calm. Whatever the experience it is perfect for you. You may need to make sure that you have the space when you go home to be able to rest and restore and just be present to the shifts that have occurred for you, (Maybe organise to have takeaway that night). It's also a good idea to warn your family that when you come home you may feel like being alone and quiet. Go gently with yourself and those around you.

Allow for the effects of the constellation to continue to settle into your being over the next few days.

"Evolution is based on the concept of mutual benefit and the extension of generosity."
Louie Schwartzberg

This information is offered as a suggestion and is not a pre-requisite for you attending a constellation. It may support you to receive the most out of the day. During a Family Constellation day it may happen that not everyone does their own personal constellation and I ask that you trust the process of what work needs to come, comes. I never know what the work will be until it happens on the day. What I usually notice and hear is that by participating in someones' constellation or witnessing someone's work as a group member, the answer to your own work is found. We are all connected and often one person's work is another's work as well.

Being a representative does not involve acting in any way and it's also not role playing. It's standing in a particular person’s position or as a symtpom and experiencing the representation of whatever it is you are representing. You simply voice the sensations, feelings and impulses that spontaneously arise in you. This is a very experiential experience that is understood once you have been in this position. Your mind will automatically want to turn this experience into a logical and understandable situation and may say things like; "I'm just making this up" or "This is crazy and I feel stupid". Until, you have the experience of saying something that has an impact on someone in the constellation or to the seeker of the constellation. This is a very normal reaction to something that is a new experience which doesn't have any validation for you yet.

Systemic Constellation Work can give you insights that you more than likely won't come across in any other way. It gives clarity to situations which then allows you to move forward in your life.

Depending on what work presents and the size of the group, there is the potential that not everyone will get to do their personal constellation during the workshop. What I have found happens, is that the group members benefits from every piece of work done by participants on the day.

Any question or struggle you are experiencing can be explored using this work. (I even did some work once on helping me to decide whether I get honey bees or native bees for our property. If you're interested in how this worked out just ask me to share the story).

"The very trauma we were born to heal is often the seed of our expansion." Mark Wolynn

What If...All our Societal Issues were the Result of Unresolved Collective Transgenerational Trauma?

If that statement were true, then it would make sense that we are not making any significant changes to our societal issues. We do not look through the lens of the systemic field when working on a social challenge.

As an example: Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) stats are on the increase or at a minimum staying the same. The level of intensity of the violence seems to be increasing. You have got to ask yourself the question, how can that be? With the amount of money being thrown at this issue and the amount of services available, you would think that it would be making a difference.

It's not! I've been on the phone for hours with women scared for their lives and the services in place to help are offering nothing more than a pitiful response. I've been on the phone when they have been at the police station and there's not much they can do. All that's left for the woman scared at night, often with children in toe, is to find somewhere to sleep in their car because that well funded DFV service won't help you by paying for emergency accommodation and the massive system of the police force are very limited in what they do. That's the reality and lived experience of many women going through DFV.

No disrespect to all those hard working people who are giving it their all to change our broken systems. Even the solutions created are not doing what they were created for. We just keep falling back into repeating patterns of operation without even knowing it.

If we keep ignoring the unresolved transgenerational trauma, then these issues need to stay in the collective field. That may sound like quite a radical statement because we are not used to including the impact of unresolved collective transgenerational trauma into the equation when we are seeking a solution. It may also seem bizarre to think that DFV needs to remain an issue. The reason it needs to remain is that even though dysfunctional, it is trying to balance our collective field.

We need to ask different questions that will take us to a different level of healing that is sustainable and works where the work needs to be. We are currently bandaiding the symptoms of what is the cause of these issues.

While we wait for the collective field to open up to what is possible we can do our individual family system work.

There is a sense of urgency to make significant change to our collective issues. We won't be able to do this if we keep using the same thinking and structures that had us create them. We risk repeating the same patterns as we always have.

Systemic Constellation Work offers a different lens to look at our issue with. It requires us to sit in the 'not knowing'. This is the place of potent potential. What do we have to lose? What we are already doing is not working!

Our Systems

'The Gap' does not seem to be closing. Again regardless of the amount of money and services available, we still see significant rates of suicide and racism.

For the amount of money allocated in this area and the amount of services available, we are not seeing declining figures of incidences.

We see increasing numbers of people becoming homeless. This is a complex
issue on the rise.

Our systems of Health, Education, Justice and Government are not working well for those they serve. Often they harm those they are there for.

If what we are doing was working we would have seen significant improvement considering the amount of money spent in these areas and the amount of resources available to help resolve these issues.  I believe what we are seeing is a lot of doing the same thing using different names. Naming something differently doesn't mean it is different!

What We'll Cover in our 6 Weeks Together

There will be plenty of space for the learnings to integrate which is crucial to true transformation. There will be opportunity for you to have any questions answered as you move through your week. If we don't get to questions in the zoom call we will answer them in our group during the week.

The focus of this program is to guide you to either begin or strengthen your connection between your mind, your body and your spirit. Becoming aware of what I see as the three major disconnects that cause us to continue to suffer is an incredible opportunity for you to begin to be the creator of your own life. The three major disconnects:

  • Disconnect #1:  Disconnection from Self
  • Disconnect #2:  Disconnection from Others
  • Disconnect #3: Disconnection from our Environment

When you are connected to yourself and your inner wisdom, life becomes more like flow. Any external disruption or disturbance has less of an impact on your inner world. You begin to experience flow and ease in your life.

The intentions for each week will give you the solid ground you need to continue to grow and deepen your connection with yourself. The awareness you build will become your secret super skill.

I do reserve the right to make changes to any intention in any week if there is a need in the group to learn something else. This will be done in consultation and agreement with the group. I always listen to what the need is rather than pushing through with what has been laid out. There is usually a collective need that aligns within a group and shows up telling us that we need to shift our focus. This has always proven to be exactly right for those participating in the group process.

Book Your Systemic Constellation

Step 1: Create your own workshop and decide if you want to do Family or Organisational Constellation Work

You get to create the day:

  • A minimum of 10 people to attend who would be interested in doing work on their family system;
  • Participants do not need to be your actual family members because they will be representatives for the work you do;
  • Have a venue with clear open space that is out of the weather with room for the group to move;
  • Decide on refreshments - ie: everyone brings a plate of food to share for lunch;
  • For organising your attendance is free;
  • There is a per person fee of $150 for the day;
  • The Constellation Workshop hours are a full day from 9:00am to 4:00pm with 1 hour lunch break.

  • Start with your leaders and executive team;
  • Be clear on what it is you want to explore;
  • Personalise your day by including training and systemic constellation work;
  • Have a venue with clear open space that is out of the weather with room for the group to move;
  • Decide on refreshments;
  • Choose between 1/2 day (3 hours) or full day (6 hours);
  • The Systemic Constellation Workshop hours are a full day from 9:00am to 4:00pm with 1 hour lunch break. Half day hours are either 9.00am to 12.00 midday or 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

Step 2: Schedule time to have a conversation to see how it would work for you or your organisation.

Step 3: Book your session!
