Articles/Trauma Bytes/How 5 Minutes Each Morning Can Shift You From Scarcity to Abundance

Do you wake up already counting what you don't have? Not enough time, not enough money, not enough energy for what lies ahead? You're not alone, and there's a reason your mind goes there first. But what if I told you that one simple morning practice could, with practice completely rewire how you see your life and the world around you?

It all started with a tiny miracle I'd walked past a hundred times, a single dandelion breaking through the stone pathway, thriving where logic said nothing should grow. In that moment, I realised nature was offering me a masterclass in abundance that would change how I think about abundance and gratitude.

Here's the thing about scarcity thinking. It can often be rooted in a trauma response that keeps us scanning for threats and focusing on what's missing. But nature operates from a completely different paradigm. She's constantly creating, sharing, regenerating, and thriving with what's available. That dandelion didn't wait for perfect soil or ideal conditions. It simply grew.

Now, every morning when I step outside, I take five minutes and practice what I call "Abundance Witnessing." I stand barefoot on the earth and let my nervous system settle into nature's rhythm. Then I actively seek evidence of abundance around me, the countless leaves on trees, the intricate patterns in flower petals, and the generous way birds share their songs freely.

This isn't toxic positivity or bypassing real challenges. It's rewiring the brain to notice the wealth of life, beauty, and possibility that's always been there. When we operate from this place of ‘abundance witnessing’, we are recognising true abundance, and you may find that your body and mind respond in a positive way to this process. Because we are made of the same elements as nature is, we often feel better just being in it. We have the potential to make different choices when our body chemistry changes from us resonating with nature. We may start creating from overflow rather than desperation.

The beautiful paradox? The more abundance I witness in nature, the more I recognise in my own life, and the more naturally I gravitate toward regenerative living that honours this interconnected web of plenty.

5-Minute Abundance Practice

Ground yourself - Step outside barefoot if possible, or place your hands on a plant or tree. Take your time to explore which plant or tree might be calling for your attention. Drop your thinking mind and simply notice where your attention goes and follow that without thinking about it. There’s no right or wrong.

Breathe with nature - Take three deep breaths, matching the natural rhythm around you. Don’t worry, trying to figure out what the natural rhythm is. If you stay present to your environment, you will start to feel it.

Witness abundance - Spend 3-4 minutes actively looking for evidence of nature's generosity (countless seeds, intricate patterns, free oxygen, bird songs, etc.)

Receive the gifts
- End by placing your hand on your heart and silently acknowledging: "I am part of this abundance"

What would shift in your life if you started each day recognising abundance instead of scarcity? And what evidence of nature's generosity can you witness from where you're sitting right now?

I’d love to know how you found this practice.

May you be well, may you be happy, and may you have inner peace.
