Overwhelm doesn't always announce itself with dramatic collapse. Sometimes it arrives quietly, in the scattered thoughts that won't settle, the sleep that doesn't restore, the simple tasks that suddenly feel mountainous.
I've been here recently myself. Saying yes to projects that excited me, opportunities that felt important, connections that mattered, each one meaningful on its own. However, accumulated together, I noticed how that challenged my nervous system.
What I noticed was my brain fatigue and not being able to keep track of it all in my mind. My body started speaking before my mind caught up: craving sweet for that quick energy fix, craving heavier foods as a way of grounding me, that familiar tightness across my shoulders when I’ve been at the computer too long, and the exhaustion.
I’ve been contemplating how nature doesn't operate this way. Trees don't try to fruit and flower simultaneously whilst also growing new roots. Rivers don't attempt to flow in multiple directions at once. They follow their natural rhythm, doing what the season calls for, trusting that enough is actually enough.
The invitation I offered myself was to recognise that I’ve exceeded my sustainable capacity right now and to make healthy choices that support rejuvenation. To notice the signals my body sends before they become symptoms I can't ignore.
Maybe you are also feeling stretched, and perhaps it's time to ask yourself:
* What would it feel like if I were able to listen to my mind and body and then respond in a supportive way (even if it meant I chose to go to bed early instead of catching up on emails)?
* Am I prepared to release one commitment?
* Are there any systems or processes I could put in place to support my chosen load?
Your turn: What signs does your body give you when you've taken on too much? And what might you be able to do to support yourself?
May you be well, may you be happy and may you have inner peace
If you try out any offered practices, I’d love to hear how you found them and what you now understand that you didn’t before. I love, love, love hearing from you guys.
